Gary's Advice, Gellman Images
Common Images Recommended for the Wedding Day
Capturing the best images on a wedding day is a very challenging proposition but, with the explosion of digital photography, creative opportunity is endless.
The basic shots of the bride with her parents and the couple leaving the ceremony will always remain classically great, but uniqueness is key to a very "cool" album to showcase the events of your big day.
To get very unique images, I suggest finding a photographer who takes upwards of 600 images on the wedding day.
I recommend providing your photographer with a "very important list" of images a few days before the event. These are the high school/college friends, God-parents and older relatives. Most professionals will know to get the larger combinations.
Posing and lighting is also key to any good photograph. High-quality photographers will use artificial light minimally. The bride should let her photographer know the style she expects before the event, including if black and white pictures are wanted. Communication is vital to getting the pictures you want and having them last forever.
A few of my signature shots include:
Romantic settings/sunset
Talking to bridal party
Eating the last meal before the wedding
Interacting with the flower girls
Getting the bride's dad's reaction to the dress
Favorite pets during preparation
Dancing with older relatives
The detailed images come into play with the wedding album design. The days of having four or less photos per page in an album are over. Today's albums are designed by graphic designers and truly tell stories about the couple getting married.
When couples view their portfolio, we never cease to impress them with our commitment to detail and quality. The apparent excitement in their reactions captures the essence of what is shot at the wedding.
