Wedding Trends for Today's Couples
Wedding trends come and go every year, and there is never any completely right or wrong way of doing something to make your day more special. Here are a few popular ideas to give your wedding a creative kickstart:
Wedding Gowns
Strapless seamed bodice with natural waist and grand trumpet skirts.
Hand-beaded and embroidered V-neck net sheath gowns.
Deep long and low V-neck gown with layered bubble skirts.
Italian cotton silk gown with a pleated skirt, spaghetti straps, and a deep V neckline.
Rich layers, wrapped overlays on bodices to asymmetric tiers in a mixture of fabrics.
Hair Styles
Ponytail A rougher more lose textured version of the traditional pony will make it look more adult and modern.
Braids The elaborately looped braided hair style makes the hair look clean and crisp.
Bun A bun that is slightly off-center will look more romantic.
Half Updo Half of the hair is pulled up and the other half is long and loose. Choose a unique ornament instead of a veil to accent your wedding look and show off those beautiful locks.
Marilyn Monroe Look Have your hair set with curls and add lots of volume.
Soft and Low Ponytail Blow-dry your hair and pull it back loosely at the back of the neck, then use a curling iron to emphasize some of the pieces within the ponytail.
French Twist This is a twisted roll that turns into a loose bun at the top.
Flowers Bouquets Flowers with an old-world European garden flair such as, fragrant and regal Casablanca lilies combined with peonies and astilbe enhanced with a french-braided ribbon.
An abundance of soft, romantic roses or a single Duchess rose bud centered in a cluster of individual rose petals highlighted by variegated ivy and silk streamers.
Simple, yet dramatic...pristine callas as the major design element, unexpectedly combined with freesia and punctuated with lily grass.
At the Ceremony Adorn the ceremony entrance with flower-filled urns (move to reception later).
Use flowers and candlelight at different levels to give dimension to design.
Use a single rose or clusters of flowers and ribbons to mark the seats of both the groom's and bride's mothers.
At the Reception Garland the center of the head table with flowers and foliage; add votives.
Use bridesmaid's bouquets to create a more lavish headtable, buffet table decoration or to surround the cake.
Have your florist create guest table centerpieces with 4-5 separate clusters of flowers so that each couple can take a centerpiece component home.
Float large fragrant flowers such as open roses or gardenias in crystal containers with votives.
Sprinkle rose petals on the cake table and along walkways.
Have the "throw-away" bouquet double as a cake top or use it on the bar for decoration.
Decorate goblets and cake knives with flowers.
Tuxedo/Formal Attire for Men
What's old is new again, as the traditional notch lapelled tux, by far the most popular tuxedo choice, is updated in more fitted styles and new fabrics.
Times have changed and the rules of etiquette have too. Ultra formal white tie and tails have given way to contemporary tuxes worn with ties and vests. The choices are vast, but should be guided by knowl-edge of tradition.
Formal events should include a tuxedo (black being the most formal) or a white dinner jacket with black trousers. At a "contemporary" wedding, a modern take on tux traditions is often the choice of today's couples.
More than 90 percent of grooms will choose to wear a tux, regardless of the time of day, and accessories are often used to distinguish the groom from the rest of his party. Formalwear should still be appropriate for the time of year (fabric weight and color, for example) and complement the style of bride's and brides-maids' dresses.
Some fashionable trends include peak lapels. Grooms may want to look for a style like the Diamante, a sin-gle breasted black tux that has a small peak lapel with a diamondesque shape, one button set slightly high at the waist and a "High Luster" satin lapel.
Modern single breasted two or three button classic black tux with a dimensional satin layer notch lapel and a high style four button with a longer coat length, which is a popular look with younger men.
Satin vests in black, white or ivory as well as an array of colors are always popular. Bow ties are on the outs and the ascot and cravat are really in at the moment.
Wedding Cakes
Stacked wedding cakes are very popular this year.
Couples are going with all round or all square cakes stacked on top of each other. They are not mixing the shapes anymore.
Pillars in between the layers of cake, to give the cake a taller appearance is also no longer popular with couples.
Bride and Groom cake toppers are a thing of the past. Couples are going with fresh or edible flowers for the top tier. Other couples are getting handmade monograms made of jewels or crystal for the top of their cake.
